| Britons Face Billion-Pound Interest Payback
One in four people is struggling with their debts as Britons collectively face a 93bn annual bill for interest. At the same time, around three million people have taken out a debt consolidation loan to try to get on top of their borrowings. Borrowing through credit cards, loans, overdrafts and mortgages has hit almost 1.4 trillion, according to comparison website uSwitch.com. An estimated 9.5m people had "maxed out" on one form of credit during the past six months, while 38% have had a credit card application rejected, the group claims. But nearly two-thirds of these failed to close down their existing credit facilities, and instead went on to rack up a further 2,300 of debt on average. Overall, the research found that the average household has now amassed unsecured debts of 4,281.
Taxpayers face a £94,000 bill to cover cost of MSPs' laptops
12 Sorry, you'll have to do better than that.I was talking about implementing an international standard which protects our public data from proprietary lock-in. Nothing to do with MS hating. If you disagree, you'll need to explain why you think it is better for our data to be beholden to a single, massive multinational company rather than open and accessible from any computer. .
Giuliani's Florida strategy about to be put to test
In what many political strategists called a risky strategy, the former New York mayor essentially sat out the early contests in Iowa, New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada and South Carolina and focused on Florida and its January 29 primary. And as his rivals notched victories, Giuliani has mostly been out of the headlines, and his standings in the national polls slipped. He is banking on a win in Florida, with its 57 delegates, to propel him back into the thick of the race and restore his front-runner status. In the last month, Giuliani has seen three men pass him by in national polls, and they are working hard to upset Giuliani's Florida strategy. Sen. John McCain comes to Florida with momentum from his wins in South Carolina on Saturday and in New Hampshire earlier this month.
Take a peek at “Battlefield Heroes”
Now we know what to expect. The first looks are out for "Battlefield Heroes," a cartoon-style first-person shooter for PC from developer Digital Illusions and publisher Electronic Arts, and due for release this summer. Like its predecessors, BH's fighting environment mimics the World War II-era European theater. Unlike its predecessors though, BH doesn't demand much nerve-wracking skill, so even gaming newbies won't feel intimidated. Because shooting isn't BH's main attraction — it's the avatar customization. BH will be Electronic Arts' first title under the company's new "Play 4 Free" strategy, in which gamers download the title at no cost but make "micropayments" to add customized features. Faces, legs, arms, torsos and uniforms can be altered in a myriad ways, as well as some weapons.
Clinton and Obama begin what appears to be a protracted battle
I don't trust Obama, I think he's not what he's trying to appear to be. The Clinton's have their faults but I'm voting for Hillary because she has so much experience, she truly cares about the middle and lower class (how I hate that saying) AND I think she is the best person to get the economic situation under control and FINALLY get us all the health care we deserve. I cannot understand how the greatest (self proclaimed) country on earth cannot provide health care for its citizens. I think we should all be screaming from the sidewalks demanding health care now!! It's the number one cause of bankruptcy in the USA how unfair that looking after your health or the health of your loved ones could cost you your life savings. Kennendy endorsing Obama was actually a favor to Hillary ha ha. I can't stand that fat old blow hard.
Fake News Scams Job Seekers
Courtni Klosloski thought she had found the perfect job. After posting her resume to Monster.com she was directed to a website for WACT, Action 25 News, a cable news channel out of Macon, Georgia. "I was thinking to myself, wow I'm going to be able to put a thousand dollars away for my daughters college, I'm going to be able to pay this, pay that, our lives are going to change," Klosloski recalled. The website was complete with weather updates, an "award winning news team", and a consumer reporter claiming to know how you can make $84,000 a year by working at home. Courtni used her credit card to purchase a set of job training DVDs for nearly $300. After realizing she'd been scammed Courtni tried to reach WACT, but each try led to a dead end.
In the cards: World Series of Poker blog
And to bring my spirits up that much more, didn't they just start World War III or something of the sort? Barring some questionable fiscal outcomes, I've actually had a wonderfully memorable series this year. But my head is in a million different places right now, both good and bad. I just don't know if this is the right frame of mind to play perfect poker for 16 hour sessions. So I am uncertain how I feel about investing $10,000 in what would be, under the best of circumstances, a high variance gamble. I have gotten various offers of various seriousness from people who say that if I don't want to put up my own money, they would be happy to invest in me for a percentage of whatever I win. But if I'm not comfortable with the idea of losing my own money, I'm not sure how I feel about losing other people's.

Exclusive | Columbia lands Spirit Airlines
Columbia's airport hasn't landed a new airline since Allegiant Air pulled its service in January 2007, less than a month after starting Columbia-to-Tampa service. The last low-cost carrier to serve Columbia was the now-defunct Independence Air. Independence forced Delta and US Airways, Columbia's two largest carriers, to lower their fares. But Independence went out of business in 2006, and fares out of Columbia almost immediately went back up. Trippler said Columbia's travelers should have confidence in Spirit airlines staying power. "This airline has been attacked by just about everybody but they haven't been run out of town," he said. "Nobody can run Spirit out of town except the people who fly out of Columbia."Spirit was founded in Detroit in 1980 as a charter service.
CTA Hits Snooze Button On 'Doomsday' Clock
Blagojevich's plan puts $27 million in money the state has previously borrowed for construction projects into capital budgets for the CTA and Pace. With approval from Washington, those agencies now can use federal capital money they already have for operations through the end of the year. "This was not a loan," said CTA Chairman Carole Brown. "We couldn't take another loan. This is a grant for transportation dollars for the state that would be applied to CTA, but it's not expected that we would have to pay it back." CTA riders said they know the extra money won't solve the CTA's funding crisis, NBC5's Charlie Wojciechowski reported, adding that they worry about additional cuts next year. "It seems like a Band-Aid on a bleeding artery," said rider Christine Carr.
