Smoltz pulls up shorts (and socks), goes to work

My opinion is that saving a scandal or a total collapse in production, the Braves should sign both to contracts paying market price or slightly below for however either wants to play.

Anything less would be showing the Braves organization is not the group that we have come to love and support for all of these years.

In my mind this is not a point that can be discussed. Either they both stay (assuming they are able) or the Braves organization loses.

Greyhounds savaged puppy

Mr/Ms Ellis, I'm somewhat confused. Brother David took the dogs for a walk, yet you state "[bold]Lisa[/bold], 37, said: "These greyhounds did have muzzles on but were roaming free around the sandpit area." This would appear to be a second hand account of a non-story that might btter have been written "puppy needed vetinary attention after a scrap with two other dogs". Nicely sensationalised there, Alex, I dare say you've earned your wages today. .

Office 2007 update beats release target

Microsoft said Tuesday that it has released the first major update of its Office 2007 productivity software at least one month ahead of its projected target.

The software maker said Office 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) will crash less, is easier to use and is more secure than the original program that was released to consumers in January.

Microsoft had said it planned to release Office 2007 SP1 in early 2008, but the company finished updating the software sooner than it expected.

Malls Pitch In To Find Boca Killer

The person who killed the Boca Raton mother and her 7-year old daughter may be the work of a serial killer. That's been the opinion of Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw. The first new video shows the mother and daughter walking through the mall. The video was recorded from a vantage point inside a Sony store. The second video shows Nancy Bochicchio's SUV approaching and departing from a bank ATM. At the outset of the investigation, detectives were quickly able to identify witnesses in the area of the ATM and have already obtained statements. Police have not said if the killer could have been in the car with them as they were in the ATM. Police released the videos hoping it will look familiar to someone who can help solve the case. The Simon Property Group, which owns eight malls including Town Center, the Aventura Mall, The Falls and Sawgrass Mills plans placed poster-sized police fliers outside each of its malls."Triggers somebody's memory, someone that might have been there, that might have seen them," said Sandra Boohenberg of Boca Raton police.

The Demise of Hyphy

A closer look into the absence of hyphy from the airwaves found that while local artists bear a degree of responsibility for the decline of the homegrown art form, KMEL is far from blameless.

Specifically, the station

• yanked local rappers with buzzworthy records from rotation over petty personal beefs

• made it difficult, if not impossible, for artists not aligned with favored promoters to get access to station personnel

• ignored the advice of its own DJs on potential hit records by local artists

• put the kibosh on efforts to spread hyphy in other regions

• engaged in blatant favoritism toward certain artists, alongside other activities that contributed to the fragmentation of the local hip-hop community

• employed a two-tiered promotion system for major-label and independent acts

KMEL's provincial attitude toward local rap artists is perhaps best exemplified by the station's treatment of Mistah F.A.B., a charismatic Oaklander sometimes referred to as "hyphy's crown prince." According to F.A.B., a "personal situation" with current music director Big Von Johnson has existed for years.

Winter Garden Distraction Thief Always Wears Medical Scrubs

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- Police in Winter Garden are looking for a thief wearing an unusual outfit. Each time the crook targets someone, she's been wearing medical scrubs. Police said the bandit has been stealing people's wallets and then using their credit cards.

For police, the images are very clear, showing three females using a stolen credit card to buy thousands in electronics. But less than an hour earlier, they were posing as church-going customers with the best of intentions

While employees at Trophies Unlimited helped their customers, Tammy Carson's wallet disappeared from her desk. At least twice in Winter Garden, and more times in Ocoee, groups have entered stores to distract employees while at the same time raiding purses.

In both Winter Garden cases, the same woman was involved and caught on tape wearing scrubs as if she were a nurse or doctor.

I'd rather have Melky or Ellsbury. I think this is a great deal for the Mets. I don't think the Mets will miss these prospects and they are getting perhaps the best pitcher in the game. A starting staff of Santana, Pedro Martinez, John Maine, Oliver Perez, and Orlando Hernandez, is the best in the National League. I'm not sure what the Twins are getting in return, especially when you consider what they walked away from. .
