| Anneka braves the one-piece challenge
The crew had to wait while I went off to roll the thing down to pee. It was my idea to wear them, so I only have myself to blame. "They were just a costume, but they brightened up what was essentially a blokes' show about helicopters and communication. The colours were camp but the styles said, 'Action Girl'." Anneka persuaded Liz de Costa, the costume designer for the musical Cats, to create jumpsuits for the second series, and then went on to launch her own successful line through the sports brand Dash. "They would be very 'now'," she remarks, flicking through a rail of spring 2008 styles. "Perhaps I should rejig them and bring out another range." She is disappointed not to see any in parachute silk among today's incarnations. "Looser jumpsuits are, on the whole, flattering for real women with curves." Anneka is impressed, however, by the new fabrics.
The cost of loyalty can be high when redeeming ‘free' miles
Fast forward and the Green Stamps of today are frequent-flier programs or hotel reward points or some loyalty program promising you free airline tickets, hotel stays or car rentals in exchange for your repeat business. But I often wonder if our loyalty is really worth the aggravation it takes to redeem those miles and points. I once spent a considerable amount of time trying to redeem miles for two tickets to Hawaii for my 10th wedding anniversary. I'm about to celebrate my 16th wedding anniversary and the ticketing ordeal is still fresh in my mind. I found a decent flight outbound but couldn't find any seats for customers like me — folks redeeming miles — for the return. There were too many blackout dates (restricted travel dates). Finally, I was told that to get a flight home, I would have to relinquish extra miles.
Tech hopes to stop road losing streak at eight
Knight said he didn't talk to his team much about the last-second shot because the Red Raiders defended that situation exactly how they were taught. Instead, Knight said he focused on other defensive breakdowns that helped Austin Johnson make six 3-pointers on his way to a season-best 20 points. If the defense plays well, Tech should come away with a victory that would move the Red Raiders into a tie for sixth place in the Big 12 Conference with the loser of Tuesday night's Baylor-Oklahoma game. A loss might put Knight in a mood similar to the one he was in Saturday, when he sent Sutton a congratulatory text message for ending his road losing streak. "I told him I was having a miserable day, but it wasn't as miserable because they won and I was happy for him," Knight said.
Wartime bravery award for women pilots
Flying unarmed, and without wireless or instrument training, they were at the mercy of both the weather and the Luftwaffe, and one in ten members of the ATA died for their country.Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, is expected to make an announcement today about the survivors, awarding them a special badge of honour in recognition of their wartime work.Although the women did not play a part in the Battle of Britain, without their expertise in delivering planes to RAF squadrons to clear the skies of German bombers, the battle would never have got off the ground.Freydis Sharland, 87, from Oxfordshire, is one of only 15 women pilots still alive. She told how she took up the government's offer to subsidise her local flying club, giving her the chance to fly. "You were aware of the mortality rate and you were told when your friends were killed," she said.
STEPHANIE SALTER: You want your fix in pill form or straight from the ...
Even if you wanted to kick the jones you couldn't. Where in the entire nation would you go to get clean, let alone stay clean? Some hippie commune in the wilds of Oregon?Seventy percent of the United States economy relies on consumer spending. Baby, you haven't got a prayer of getting this monkey off your back.If you ever thought you did, take a look at the bipartisan "economic stimulus package" the White House and the House of Representatives have pronounced acceptable. What a victory.A country that is wobbling under individual and government debt is going to remedy the situation by handing out one-time infusions of cash to taxpayers and businesses so they will … spend it as quickly as possible.A national economy that has been knee-capped by its own investor greed and atrocious federal oversight of mortgage lending practices breathlessly awaits relief from an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve that will make borrowing … easier. While the wages of all but the wealthiest Americans have stagnated or shrunk, the cost of living has done what it always does — continued to rise.
US district court judge orders shutdown of whistleblower web site
In an extraordinary act of censorship, lawyers representing the Swiss bank Julius Baer (BJB) obtained an injunction against the Dynadot corporation, US domain name registrar for the Wikileaks web site. Judge Jeffrey White of the Federal District Court in San Francisco issued the injunction February 15 in a lawsuit BJB filed against Wilikeaks and Dynadot. The suit was filed after Wikileaks posted documents allegedly revealing fraudulent activities, including asset-hiding, money laundering and tax evasion schemes, on the part of the banks Cayman Islands branch. BJB claims the documents were stolen and contain customer information protected from disclosure under privacy laws. The website of BJB promotes the bank as the leading dedicated wealth manager in Switzerland, concentrating on private banking and asset management for private and institutional clients. Under the terms of the injunction, Dynadot may not release the registered wikileaks.org domain name, meaning that the Wikileaks web site cannot be reached through the related web address, www.wikileaks.org.
As snow blows, business booms at Sifto Canada
Sifto is the largest rock-salt mine in the world and a major North American supplier. I would say its been a very busy year all around, he said on Monday. Everyone is looking for supplies of salt and we are one of the few places that can meet that demand. Howe said he cannot remember a time when they were this busy during the winter season. He also said it is unusual to have so many winter storms, and still have shipping routes open, albeit with the aid of ice breakers. Howe said demand for salt is up significantly in the corridor between Chicago and Montreal and all along the Great Lakes. He said it is unusual to see this much demand for salt so late in the season and many of Siftos competitors are running short. It puts an extra burden on us to supply [the salt], he explained. .
In the Age of the Superbugs: What is the Remedy?
Firefighters said these forest fires have been getting worse for ten years. Why are we only finding out about the ‘superbug" of forest destruction now? Oil is another issue. For years, the Administration scoffed at suggestions that the Iraq war was motivated by the need to control more oil reserves. The media scoffed at critics who chanted “no blood for oil" while politicians were in denial. And then, none other than former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan asserted that oil was always a main motivator. At that, the media and the government went silent, as if attacked by a superbug of amnesia. Ditto for the suggestion that oil production was peaking. Nonsense said the oil companies when the suggestion was made. They seemed gripped by a superbug of certainty.
Taking responsibility
We don't let infants fly planes, why are we letting infantile cyber-citizens put us all at risk? Undeniably, the real villains are the online criminals: the phishers, the Nigerian scammers, the identity thieves that steal billions of dollars every year from individuals and organisations. Software companies selling leaky products also share blame. The unwitting henchmen But it's us - the users - that are facilitating these crimes. It's our stupidity, laziness, naiveté, ignorance and inattention that are allowing criminals to hijack our machines, and send out spam, viruses and countless other dangers to other innocent, ignorant users. We've seen with file-sharing and piracy lawsuits how record companies have successfully prosecuted computer owners, even when it turned out to be their children that had secretly carried out the piracy.
Hip-Hop Rumors: Diddy's New Pleasure, Superhead's Return?, Mary ...
So, Diddy has a nice lil' roster on the female side of life, but what about the guys? I'm sure he's got dude on Bad Boy, but I just don't know who they are. Well, I am hearing a good one about a guy we all like. Pretty Ricky's former lead singer Pleasure P is still a free agent and I heard Team Bad Boy might be picking him up. Now, I don't claim that I know P.P.'s work, but this guy is the only guy from Pretty Ricky who I heard of. No, disrespect, but I don't listen to the group. Anyway, P.P. might be the right addition to Bad Boy. He's like the complete opposite of Janelle Monae in every way. SUPERHEAD AT BET!? One of my buddies was there at BET yesterday with her man, because he was DJing at Rap City. Anyway, a well-known rapper was there, because he was shooting a commercial for Black History Month.
Gen Me: No more self-centred than you
They also said that many of these young graduates were still living at home with their folks into their mid and late 20's. This article purports to tell us that these young adults are slef sufficient. Does that mean they are moving out and getting their own places or will they simply clean up their rooms and help mom with the dishes. Bottom line: Give me some grant money and I'll produce any report you want. Posted 29/01/08 at 11:21 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .
